How to Organize a Bags4Kids Donation Program
If you are interested in planning a collection program for your school, here is a sample plan used by an Antelope Valley elementary school to solicit donations from students and their families. If your organization collects items, a representative from Bags4Kids will come to your location and pick up the collection. You do not have to go to a drop-off point!

Bags4Kids Student Council Project Outline

This plan was organized through an
Antelope Valley elementary school Student Council as their Holiday Project. The entire project took 2 months. Although this particular plan was used for an elementary school, this is a great program to get your youth group, women clubs, and friends at work to do. Even kids clubs could collect these items. I've had many offices collect items and they had fun doing this!

Flyers were made to send home with each child in the school.

A collection bag was placed in each classroom for donated items. Room Moms were asked to assist in the promotion of the project and collection of all items.

Outline the program at 1st meeting. Progress report from each classroom rep will be presented to Council at (second week) meeting.

Student Council members were asked to make a poster for each classroom advertising their holiday project. The poster was to include 1) purpose: Bags4Kids 2) start date, 3) collection date.

Student Council members (in teams of 2) were assigned classrooms to check on weekly and collect donations. They were asked to report on each classroom’s progress so far, collect donations and take to collection spot to organize for presentation.

Presentation date set for Bags4Kids to come to the school. Student Council made their arrangements to present their collection. The local newspaper was called and asked to be on hand for the presentation.

“ABC” Elementary Student Council Holiday Project

“ABC” Student Council would like to announce their "2007" Holiday Project. We have chosen to collect requested items for needy children in the Antelope Valley. Our collected items will be given to Bags4Kids for distribution through Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, Lancaster office.

Bags4Kids, founded by LaJuana Moser of California City, primary purpose is to provide basic items for children who are under the transitional care of Children Services, Lancaster office. Ms. Moser fills bags with toiletries, small toys, writing materials, journals and books. Each bag contains donated items specifically for a boy or a girl. It is a special way to show a child that someone cares.

Each third, fourth and fifth grade class has been given a specific item(s) to bring in. We will finalize our collection on (see project calendar).

Your classroom has been requested to bring in: (see Classroom Assignments)

Thank you for supporting ABC Elementary Student Council’s Holiday Project.
